Hudson Valley Chapter Monthly Meeting

  •     Home of VP Rosemary and Jon Vena of Red Hook, NY
  • Rosemary and John's pond is over 22 years old with currently 23 Koi and 11 Goldfish. Hopefully, the Trumpet vines will still be blooming over the far side of the pond, attracting the hummingbirds.
  • We will discuss how members ponds have been fairing during the summer and talk about parasitic infections and what signs to look for and the proper treatment.
  • We will discuss the upcoming ZNA Koi Show on Sept 18th-20th on Long Island. Last year's show was a great success and our MAKC booth attracted a lot of interest from show-goers and signed up several new members for our chapters. It will be held at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge, NY.
  • The ZNA show could be a opportunity for members to have a fun weekend getaway at a great Koi event. See amazing fish and meet all kinds of vendors that are pond related. Enjoy dinner with other chapter members and visit our MAKC booth. Rosemary is  going for sure and hopes to get a few members together for a carpool. Look for more details shortly so you can plan ahead and make a reservation
The show itself has free admission.

Hudson Valley Chapter Monthly Meeting

  •  Home of Frank and Peggy Almquist, Kingston, NY
  •  Frank and Peggy are both Master Gardeners and have the landscape to show for it. Walk the gardens and ask questions and sit next to their tranquil pond.
  • We will discuss the types of plants that are best suited for your Koi and water gardens. If you have a division from one of your pond plants that you would like to share then bring it along with a precious plastic bag for transport.
  • Since the Almquist's have had to deal with a variety of pesky predators that have attacked their Koi they may be able to offer some advice on dealing with the problem. Maybe you have a solution to offer!
  • If you love to garden then don't miss this meeting.

Hudson Valley Chapter Monthly Meeting

  •  Home of Louise and Larry Bigando, Saugerties, NY
  •   For those who attended last year's meeting at their home, you may remember the large pond in the open backyard. Well, this year it will be remodeled to be a deeper and more efficient home for their Koi collection.
  • Members will learn the proper way to safely handle and net fish in order to transfer them to holding tanks that will house them for the duration of the remodel.
  •  If you want to get hands-on then be prepared to get your legs wet and wear non-slip rubber shoes. It should be a lot of fun!
  • (Plus, Larry is a great cook--Just Sayin!)

Hudson Valley Chapter Annual Open House

It is with great disappointment that MAKC president Herb Ehrich and myself, the Hudson Valley Chapter VP, have decided to postpone our annual open house, which was to be held March 22 in Saugerties, NY. We were so excited to meet so many interested current pond owners and several that were in the dreaming and planning stages, at the Adams Spring Garden Show. We had all looked forward to a great meet and greet between our knowledgeable members and these interested local ponders.
In considering the current situation with the Corona Virus and the official recommendations to keep public exposure to a minimum, we feel it would be in the best interest of our members and guests to postpone the gathering to a later date in the Spring. We will be keeping you updated on our web sites and personally contacting our membership and those who left their email addresses with us at the garden show. Please feel free to contact Club President Herb Ehrich at or me at, if you have any questions. Please take care of yourself and stay well.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon and until then keep dreaming of our coming pond season and the enjoyment it will give you.
Sincerely, Rosemary Vena,  Hudson Valley Chapter VP

  •  At the Masonic Lodge, Saugerties, NY
  • Come see what we are all about.
  • Want to build a pond but not sure how to start? Speak with us and see where your dreams can take you!
  •  At our March open house, we will be discussing the upcoming pond season and the agendas for our monthly meetings. These will include a Koi auction, guest speakers, educational videos to watch, hands-on harvesting and transporting to a temporary containment of a member's Koi collection. I'd also like to throw in a group trip or two. Please bring along any suggestions you may have that you feel could be of interest to our club members.
